The Thunder

Preliminary sketch of The Thunder card from Cardcaptor Sakura (Sakura Card deck). She's holding Clow Reed/Eriol's symbol in her left hand and Sakura's in her right, as both appear when they're being used when those characters are summoning. The kanji on her shoulder means "thunder". This drawing will be going into scraps when I get the final version up.
=> Why are her hair/left hand/the star thingy screwed up?
The symbols are supposed to be glowing, but I can't do that effect at this stage So I sorta erased around Clow's symbol to remind me of what I'm doing. And I didn't realize that one point on the sun was incomplete until I'd been through the thirty minute scan process...I'm too lazy to fix it for something that's just going into my scrap folder, anyways.
=> Why is she female?
Have you noticed that almost all the Clow Cards that have human forms are female? I thought this would fit CLAMP's theme.

Medium: 0.7 and 0.5 mm pencils, 8-1/2"x11" copy paper (which I officially hate now. I'm switching to sketchbooks); some tweaking in Photoshop Elements to get rid of scanning imperfections. **Kicks scanner**

Help! I'm stuck on what to do for the background and top of the picture. Any comments would be greatly appreciated!
